On Nov. 17th as of 6pm, selected guests, members of the school community, representatives of the school authorities and members of the Board bid Jens Loff farewell as he is leaving his position as Chairman of the Board of ISH after a period of six years.
The Albert Schäfer Saal at Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce provided a distinguished locale for the enjoyable evening which not only saw 5 impressive music performances by ISH students, but also speeches by former Board member Nicholas Teller, current Board member Dr. Anke Frieling, Head of School Andreas Swoboda and of course Mr. Loff himself.
Mr. Swoboda took the opportunity to roast the leaving Chairman in good humor before looking back at Mr. Loff’s tenure with honest appreciation:
(…) On a personal level, I would like to say that you have always been very clear and concise in your advice, and while we did not always agree on every issue, we have always managed, through respectful conversations, to find a mutually acceptable way forward. Under your leadership I have experienced nothing but support from you which is something that every school head around the world needs as a prerequisite for good work. I am only too aware that this is not every school head's reality, and for making it mine I want to sincerely thank you!
Once again, Jens, thank you for six years of continuous enthusiasm and energy, of unwavering support and of relentless dedication to the cause of the International School of Hamburg! (…)
At the end of his speech, Mr Swoboda presented Mr. Loff with a very special keepsake: A custom painting by ISH alumni Naghmeh Sangtarash. We are sure every member of the school community will join us in wishing Mr. Loff all the best for the future!
