“This November saw three wonderful performances of The Wizard of Oz in our school aula. The production was a huge success and was achieved through the collaborative efforts of many students, parents and teachers.
Under the leadership of Jan-Mark Seewald and Tarlochan Manak the set design team transformed the Aula into the magical world of Oz. A yellow brick road ran through the middle of the Aula leading to the stage area where a lit up backdrop of a rainbow appeared. Chris Graham musically directed the orchestra, comprised of a large number of student musicians as well as professional and teacher musicians. Michiel De Beer was the vocal musical director, training the voices of cast members. Trena Abbott, Tarik Azouz and Martin Främke led the Tech Crews, Susan Cover led the Make-Up Crew, Michelle Rutter coordinated costumes and offstage action with Louise Earwalker providing backstage assistance.
This dedicated team of teachers came under the leadership of the show's director Emma Avila Collazos. Notable mention should also be given to student Victoria-Alison Zabel who led the shows choreography as well as played the lead role of Dorothy, and Jonah Hendricks who did a wonderful job as stage manager preventing a few backstage mishaps! Cynthia Lawrence and The Prom Committee and Ghana Project provided wonderful refreshments throughout the evening and helped the audience to realize that ‘there is no place like home’.“
